Late Fall

winter teasel has turned
to fire weed along the river.
leaves drift against the chain link
between the path and the tracks.

the perfect curve
of hardtack island rounds
into the current.

pale leaves let go
from shore oak
in the last light.

night will fill
the river channel.
the lights will stay

all the way to the sea.
