Burial

Burial

To sing praise as you crucify
God

is talking
at the climax, spoiling
the suspense.

Dip
bread in wine
taste the blood
it is meant to be

-come. The women
of early morning, mourning, gray
shrouds, scented, tears

expecting sepulcher, receive
surprise: O joy, alive!

Run, quick, to tell—risking
unbelief.

What glory lives
in knowing?

To rise requires burial.
