Of Light Enveloping

Of Light Enveloping

Unable to sleep, I’ve wandered
through the city, here

to this lonely tree
overlooking the Lake—
an expanse of water
so large it echoes
of loneliness

The wind keeps me
company as I search
for language to tell
of light enveloping

a hillside shrub,
leaf by leaf, so slowly
I hold my breath, witness
to a private act

I put down my pen
and let it claim me
